About me
I graduated from Concordia University in 2004. I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in art education. Since then, I have taught in a variety of settings like art institutes, elementary schools, recreational centers, at-risk youth organizations, and in my home studio. The main subject was art, however I also taught English as a second language. I noticed that students had difficulty understanding basic concepts and struggled to remember information. That is when I introduced art making with ESL, and later, with French, Italian, and math while I was substitute teaching.
Students enjoyed learning this way, for it reduced their anxiety towards all topics. Most already loved art and understood notions when they were arranged in a creative manner. It boosted their confidence and allowed them to become open minded. Moreover, it altered their perception of dreaded subjects. Making and using their learning tools reassured them and highlighted their best qualities - their artistic superpowers. Finally, they were able to comprehend and complete projects like their classmates.
