I wrote my book in 2012 and drew this image in 2011. I began creating mandalas in 2005, which was the start of my transformation. By 2008, I spent many hours producing and living day to day. It was a beautiful, profound experience. Yet, it was also scary, especially financially. I risked a lot of things but simultaneously felt alive and free, as though painting, drawing and writing had to take center stage. I was following my heart and my soul calling. I tried other things to gain stability, however they never worked out and left me feeling depleted. This process led me to gradually move away from people as well as situations that were not a match to my inner world, although it wasn't easy...
After several turns around the wheel of life, I have finally returned to "that old magical feeling" (as described in my book). I tapped into courage, truth, and Source (God, Universe, etc.). I stopped buying into the idea that something or someone has the solution. I realized that I am the solution. This is my belief. What is yours?
Although I painted this piece in late spring, I always think of fall as I gaze at the red and brown mandala flowers. I can still recall the moment I created the big turquoise and ochre mandala. I was increasingly mesmerized by it. A strong sensation of being in the woods during a late afternoon came over me. There I was, surrounded by warm light along with intricate, wild organic shapes. I stood still and felt safe in an unfamiliar place. I then realized that remaining in the moment was powerful because of the peace it provided me.
I stare at it every morning while having breakfast and let it speak to me. As you look at it, follow the meditation below and listen. The technique is taken from my book, The Mandala Way: A Circular Journey Within, page 30.
Meditate:
-
Assume a comfortable position in front of your mandala.
-
Observe it as a whole.
-
Afterwards, focus on a section that captivates you.
-
Seize that beauty in your heart and let it speak to you.
-
Feel yourself at peace and centered.
This acrylic painting transported me to the depths of my soul. It felt like swimming in a bottomless ocean. I experienced an array of feelings. Some were intense while others were illuminating.
We are radiant beings, yet the darkness around us can easily drag us into a downward spiral. Recognizing that we are essentially made of light allows us to distance ourselves from obscurity. In addition, joining others that share this vision will create more luminosity.
Visualize:
-
Imagine that you are floating in this painting.
-
Move to a bright area (one that you are naturally drawn to).
-
How warm is the spot you are in?
-
Let the light transmute your pain.
